San Francisco Bay Cities Report – February 2015 Jordan Makower“
You’ve Gotta Have Heart, All You Really Need is Heart”, so goes a song sung by a quartet in the 60-year oldmusical, Damn Yankees. February is a month about Valentine’s Day and heart. The SFBC group shows its heart every month by performing for nursing homes or hospitals or singing to patrons at Harry’s Hofbrau,as well as in other ways. Briefly, this article is about the latter. People who join us in song may not be paying members of the Society, but we always have a place in our heart for them. Sometimes they are people who hear us singing, sit/stand and watch us, or as past members of SPEBSQSA (but low in funds) they just need a place to go to feel like they belong. We had representatives from all of the above this month. We sang as a group and as quartets to encourage (and applaud) those who joined us. Members from other singing groups join us too, especially the first Wednesday of the month, in “The Harmony For Lunch Bunch”. Similar groups meet around the state during contests and other BHS-sponsored events. We also meet the second and fourth Wednesdays at Harry’s for dinner, and welcome wives/significant others as well as singers/visitors. Go to John Heather’s website: www.sfbayquartets.org to find out more, join us in song, or just to listen, and see what HEART is like in practice.
